MOORHEAD, MINN. (Valley News Live) - There are some memories we want to hold on to forever. One Moorhead woman is showing you can do that in a number of ways with her business “Remade to Remember.”
“It’s almost like a ministry to me. It’s like a way to take the skills that I have and to do something really special for someone,” said Ashley Dedin Carlson, the owner of “Remade to Remember.”
For more than 20 years, Ashley has been sewing. Since 2012, she’s been taking meaningful items and turning them into something new. That shirt you got engaged in? It can now be a scrunchie!
“At the end of the day, like what is giving it more meaning? Sitting in the back of your closet knowing it exists? Or actually turning it into something that you can wear, or use, or give to someone.”
It’s a way to remember the happy memories but also those we love.
“It’s no small thing to cut into somebody’s last piece of clothing that they have of a loved one. But I feel so much confidence in it that I feel like I just have to do it because I can.”
Ashley looks into the materials you have and what you want to make. She wants you to know that there isn’t a rush to decide what you want.
“I never rush anybody into making decisions about taking their clothes, their loved ones’ clothes, and transforming them. Just letting people know that it is an option that when they do go through loss or something unexpected, somewhere in the back of their mind, know they can hold onto clothing and it can be made into something.”
Something to bring some comfort during the hard times.
“We all go through really difficult things and we all experience loss. Being able to take something really dark and heavy and make something beautiful out of it, is really what it’s all about.”
